This fall, our Trempealeau Elementary 5th graders took part in Red Hawk Ridge (RHR) — an incredible outdoor education experience held right in our own backyard at Perrot State Park. Now in its third year, this much-loved tradition continues to grow, bringing together learning, teamwork, and adventure in a truly unforgettable way.
Throughout the experience, students immersed themselves in hands-on activities designed to connect classroom learning with the natural world. Guided by teachers, community members, and high school volunteers, students explored topics in ecology, environmental science, and conservation through hiking, observation, and outdoor challenges. They also had the opportunity to express their creativity through art and music enrichment, blending academics and the arts in a vibrant outdoor setting.
One of the most meaningful aspects of Red Hawk Ridge is the way it brings our district community together. The event is made possible through the support of local partners, families, and expert facilitators who share their passion for outdoor education. Their time, energy, and generosity ensure that every student can experience the wonder and learning that come from connecting with nature.
We’re incredibly proud of our fifth graders for embracing this adventure with curiosity, courage, and teamwork. Red Hawk Ridge 2025 was more than just a field trip—it was a celebration of learning beyond the classroom walls and a reminder of how powerful it can be when students step outside and discover the world around them.
